Charles Howe French (21 Sep 1814 - 13 Jan 1889)

Born to Hannah Howe and Alexander French, Charles Howe French started out in life with the gravest of unforeseen circumstances--his mother died in 1816 when he was only two years old, eleven days after the birth of his sister; his father died ten years later when Charles was twelve.  Despite his disadvantaged beginnings, French not only had a productive life, but also a prosperous one.

Mary (Wills) Wilbor Burr (1751 - 1852) Seymour Burr (____ - 1837)

Considered “the last of the Punkapoag Indians”, Mary (Wills) Wilbor Burr’s life and times--as well as her two marriages--are a glimpse not only into Canton’s local history but also into our young nation’s early beginnings as a whole.

Joanne F. Regan (1929 - 2006)

The Canton Public Library is pleased to bring your attention to the four works of the accomplished New England artist Joanne F. Regan which are on permanent display in the building.  Two drawings hang in the Adult Reading Room and two paintings hang in the Reference Room.  Regan’s acquired skills of good design, accuracy and color are evident in all four works and they are especially prized by the community as they depict landmarks of Canton, both past and present.
