  1. Opioid Abuse Community Discussion

    Dr. Steven Kassels will be visiting the library to discuss his book Addiction On Trial: Tragedy in Downeast Maine as well as discussing stigmas related to opioid addiction. Dr. Kassels has been Board Certified in both Addiction Medicine and Emergency Medicine, his book is based on medical and legal truths from his many years of treating patients as well as his involvement in medical-legal proceedings in criminal trials. While you are encouraged to read his book, he will be speaking at the Library about opioid addiction, how the drug can affect anyone, as well as other problems related to drug addiction. This program is free and open to the public. Sponsored by the Canton Alliance Against Substance Abuse (CAASA).

    This guide to conducting successful oral interviews designed to obtain genealogical information and family stories will focus on lessons the speaker learned through both successful and unsuccessful oral interviews with her grandfathers. We will focus on preparation for the interview, including how to approach the subject you wish to interview, deciding which questions to ask, and choosing the appropriate equipment. We will discuss briefly how to handle situations that may arise during the interview, interview etiquette and transcription of the completed interview. Presented by Lori Lyn Price.   13. Open Book Coffeehouse

    The Open Book Coffeehouse is a non-profit venue offering wide variety of acoustic music, including folk, singer / songwriter, jazz, blues, bluegrass, and a capela music since 2006. Enjoy the relaxing, warm atmosphere of friendly people, good music, hot coffee, and home-baked goodies. Performances are held (usually) the third Saturday of the month from September through June (except December). The doors open at 6:45 and the music begins promptly at 7:30. Enter by the "Special Events" door to the left of the columns, midway into the parking area. Seating at our concerts is first-come, first-served. The Community Room is accessible via elevator.

    Come sing and learn with Ms. Marsha at the library! Tot Time Sing n Learn is for toddlers nine months to three years old and their caregivers. Each month we play, sing, complete simple crafts, and have stories loosely based around a theme. We begin the session with a free play period that includes a variety of toys designed to engage your child. Each family leaves with information and ideas to extend the learning to home. This program offers parents the opportunity to meet other parents with children the same age. This is a drop in program however if you have questions contact the library.

  3. Magic Carpet Book Club: World Travelers Edition

    This year we will hop on our Magic Carpets and take a trip around the world! We learn how children live in other lands! Each month we will travel to a different continent and learn about the people and wonders of the land. We will meet children from all over the world and find out about their day. Using videos, books, and an awesome 3-D atlas we will travel the World. Each month we will compete a simple craft or play games from the places we visit. Children who have visited or have family in the countries we visit are encouraged to share their experiences. There will be artifacts from some of the countries we visit for children to explore. Each child will receive a “passport” and place a stamp form each country we visit. The children will be engaged in geography, science and social studies lessons. This program is for school age children in grades K-4.
