  1. Canton Remembers: Our Veterans - a Photo Scanning Day

    October 21, 2017, 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM @ Community Room

    Please help us create a digital archive to remember and honor Canton's service families past and present. Members who served in any branch of the armed services, who now or formerly lived in Canton or residents with close relatives whose service they wish to memorialize in this way are all welcome to participate. The archive will be made accessible on the Library’s website ultimately become part of the Digital Commonwealth. All you need to do is bring up to four photographs that are special to you. We will scan them and record information about the photograph. You are also invited to bring memorabilia that we will digitally photograph. Consider composing a short descriptive summary to accompany each photograph or item, including why it has special meaning to you. (Please omit the names of any non-relatives that appear in the photo.) All scanning will be done in the Library's Community Room on the lower level. No appointment is necessary. Light refreshments will be served.

  2. Open Book Coffeehouse

    October 21, 2017, 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM @ Community Room

    Enjoy the relaxing, warm atmosphere of friendly people, good music, hot coffee, and home-baked goodies. The Open Book Coffeehouse is located on the Lower Level of the Canton Public Library. Parking is to the left when facing the library from Washington Street. Enter by the "Special Events" door to the left of the columns, midway into the parking area. Performances are held (usually) the third Saturday of the month from September through June. No advanced tickets. The doors open at 6:45 and the music begins promptly at 7:30 PM.

  3. Author Talk: "Chronicle's" Ted Reinstein

    Ted Reinstein, a reporter for “Chronicle” and author, talks about his newest book, New England General Stores. The general store was a place where kids came in to by penny candy, and adults came in to buy everything from swaths of fabric, to fresh vegetables, to four-penny nails. It was deeply woven into America’s cultural identity and the fact is, the general store is still very much here, and still very much the heart of some communities. Free and open to the public.

She will introduce readily-available sources of information, including paper and electronic resources available at the library, and she will address common concerns such as self-sufficiency, outliving savings, and the risks of inflation and financial exploitation

  10. Great Pumpkin Feud Carving

    Do your part to help Canton beat Stoughton in The Great Pumpkin Feud! Carve a Jack-o-lantern at the library, and we'll bring it to the challenge on Saturday. Register in advance to reserve a pumpkin provided by the library, or bring your own!

  11. An Afternoon with Henry David Thoreau

    The Canton Public Library will celebrate the Henry David Thoreau Bicentennial with a special event. Participants can “meet” Henry David Thoreau. Historian Richard Smith, who’s realistically performed as Thoreau for nearly 20 years, will read an essay and host a lively discussion, taking questions from the audience about Thoreau. This program is free and open to the public.
