The Canton Alliance Against Substance Abuse (CAASA) proudly presents a talk, "Is Addiction a Disease", by Addiction and Emergency Medicine Physician and internationally acclaimed author, Dr. Steven Kassels.
He will discuss his book Addiction on Trial: Tragedy in Downeast Maine; his book is based on medical and legal truths from his many years of treating patients as well as his involvement in medical-legal proceedings in criminal trials. He will help explain why there is a heroin/opioid epidemic and some possible solutions.
Dr. Kassels has been Board Certified in both Addiction Medicine and Emergency Medicine.
While you are encouraged to read his book, he will be speaking at the Library about opioid addiction, how the drug can affect anyone, as well as other problems related to drug addiction.
Doctor Steven Kassels has had the privilege of treating patients from all walks of life during his years of practice in both Emergency Medicine and Addiction Medicine. He believes that everyone deserves compassion and access to medical care regardless of the nature of the illness. He wrote Addiction on Trial to both entertain and educate, and to depict the struggles of addiction for an audience of avid readers who may expand their understanding of addiction on the basis of evidence. This program is free and open to the public. There will be time for Q&A. Book signing will follow the talk. Author proceeds donated to: The Canton Alliance Against Substance Abuse.
