Canton's Town-Wide, All-Ages, Short Story, Poetry & Prose contest is open to all residents of Canton!

Canton authors are invited to enter their best writing between February 1 and the first Monday in April.   There are four (4) age categories in which to enter: elementary school, middle school, high school, and adult.  Authors may submit a short story, poem, or non-fiction/essay/memoir but no more than one entry in each category.   No entry may exceed one thousand (1000) words.

Send your entry as an email attachment along with a submission form to by the first Monday in April. Entries submitted in unreadable format will be returned. Each entry must have a title.  Authors should NOT put their name or any other identifying information on the poem, essay, memoir or story itself. No entry will be accepted without a submission form.

All participants who give permission on their submission form will be published in the Canton Writes print edition which will be available for purchase on Awards Night and afterwards, and at a special price to authors.

First, Second and Third place prizes will be awarded in each category for each age group.  All winners will have the opportunity to read their work to the audience on the Awards Night - usually the fourth Thursday in April -  in the Library’s Community Room.  Winners will be notified by email and announced in the Canton Citizen.

Canton Writes is sponsored by the Friends of the Canton Public Library, and the Canton Citizen.
